Colombo Port to offer thousand beds for Covid-19 patients

SLPA (Sri Lanka Ports Authority) employees assigned to work in welding unit of the Engineering Division are currently constructing 1,000 fully equipped beds to support patients undergoing treatment for Covid-19. Hon. Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Minister of Ports and Shipping inspected the activities of this project this morning (May 11).

This project is being implemented under the guidance of the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, General Daya Ratnayake. In addition to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the South Asia Gateway Terminal and the Colombo International Container Terminal, as well as the Colombo Dockyard, are assisting in this endeavour.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority and all other institutes operating at the Port of Colombo have collectively supported at institutional as well as national level to control the Covid-19 pandemic since its outbreak in Sri Lanka. As another step, the project is being implemented and the beds will be made available for the use of Covid-19 patients brought to the treatment centres within the next few days.
