P625 OPV arrives at Colombo Port

Chinese Frigate P 625, modernized to serve as an offshore patrol vessel, a gift to Sri Lanka Navy, arrived at the Port of Colombo from Shanghai, today morning.

Accordingly, the ship was officially handed over to Commanding Officer of P 625 Captain Nalindra Jayasinghe by the Director General of Equipment and Technical Cooperation Bureau of Chinese Army (Navy) Major General Fan Jianjun.

The 112m long and 12.4 m wide Chinese frigate built in 1994 has been modernized to serve as an offshore patrol vessel (OPV). The ship with a displacement capacity of 2300 tons has a complement of 18 officers and 92 sailors onboard.

In Sri Lanka Navy, the ship will be utilized as an offshore patrol vessel for patrol and surveillance missions in the deep seas around the island providing the maritime security and assistance to search and rescue operations.
