June 25 Day of the Seafarer
It is significant to celebrate the 10th anniversary of International Seafarers Day, in a time of prevailing different kinds of challenges due to Covid-19 pandemic. This global health crisis gave us a chance to reevaluate and reassess the maritime strategies. Seafarers are the forerunners to maintain the efficiency and reliability of the global supply chain. They are the frontline of the maritime industry.
Needless to say, Covid-19 pandemic had a profound impact on the ports and shipping. Consequently, the global supply chain is facing an exceptionally challenging period. But thanks to our seafarers, the global supply chain is continued to provide essential goods and services to all parts of the world to ensure the safety and well-being of every person.
However, seafarers are facing enormous challenges in maintaining high standard performances of the global supply chain. They have sacrificed their lives for the betterment of humanity. As we understand and implement, developing maritime safety and environmental protection standards to promote the responsible operation of ports, ships and the safety of seafarers are the most important steps.
Unity and solidarity have been the basis of our great achievements in the maritime industry. Like in the past, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and all its stakeholders worked together around the clock to address the challenges faced by seafarers due to Covid19 pandemic. We have ensured the safety of seafarers and provided them with adequate facilities. It is with pride and joy that we always stand with the sailors to overcome the challenges they face.
