Colombo East Container Terminal Receives Maiden Call of Ever Eon

Newly delivered Post-Suezmax vessel highlights SLPA’s deep-water capacity and modern terminal infrastructure

EVER EON, a newly delivered Post-Suezmax class container vessel, made its maiden call at the Colombo East Container Terminal (ECT) of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority on 22 January 2026, marking an important operational milestone for both the vessel and the port. Built in 2025 by Samsung Heavy Industries in the Republic of Korea, the vessel is registered under the Singapore flag and is owned and commercially operated by Evergreen Marine Corporation, one of the world’s established liner shipping groups. With an overall length of approximately 369 metres, a beam of about 54 metres, and a deadweight in excess of 180,000 tonnes, Ever Eon is designed for high-volume, long-haul containerised trade. The vessel incorporates modern fuel-efficient propulsion systems, advanced navigational technology and environmental features compliant with current IMO regulations, supporting efficient and sustainable operations across major international trade routes. Its maiden call at Colombo reflects Evergreen Marine’s continued deployment of new-generation tonnage into ports capable of accommodating large, deep-draft container vessels.

The Port of Colombo is a principal maritime and logistics gateway in the Indian Ocean, benefiting from its strategic position along major global shipping corridors linking Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. Operated under the stewardship of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), the port has undergone sustained infrastructure development to support increasing vessel sizes and evolving liner service requirements. The Colombo East Container Terminal (ECT) offers deep-water access, modern ship-to-shore gantry cranes and advanced terminal operating systems, enabling the efficient handling of large container vessels.
