The Maritime Technology Cooperation Center (Asia) was recently organized Webinar with the participation of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to find pathways to greener and more sustainable shipping in Asia.
This was the first time that this workshop was held at SLPA’s Mahapola Ports & Maritime Academy with the participation of experts on the maritime industry.
Prof. Jin Yo Xia, Prof. Xi Shin, Prof. Ru An Wei, Weifeng of the Shanghai Urban Transport Commission, Prof. Chen Yu Lee, Prof. Min Han Hyatt, Captain Qin Jin Pian of COSCO Shipping Company, Prof. Xu Feng and many other maritime experts joined as contributors of this webinar.
Reducing GHG emissions from shipping is one of IMO’s key objectives.
The webinar has explored some of the recent developments in terms of IMO regulation and policy on GHG reduction, and highlight some of the IMO initiatives that are being undertaken in developing regions to help improve energy efficiency.
Particular attention has been focused upon an IMO and EU partnership project, the Global MTCC Network (GMN), which has established Maritime Technology Cooperation Centres (MTCCs) in target regions, to help support countries on their path to greener and more sustainable shipping.
