A well-known passenger ship, Crown Princess, arrived at the Port of Colombo recently to send some of its crew members back home. A total of 381 surplus employees of the Crown Princess are planning to disembark from the ship using security measures implemented due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The vessel is currently anchored in the outer harbour until the necessary approval is obtained. Then the disembarking crew will be subjected to the formal quarantine procedures implemented by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority on the instructions of the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka.
According to Nimal Ranchigoda, Executive Director of Crown Princess’s local agent Malsihip (Ceylon) Limited, the crew members supposed to disembark could not be sent back to India as expected on 29.05.2020. However, he said, “as soon as the Indian government approves it, all arrangements have been made to send the crew back home safely as planned.”
Crown Princess (IMO: 9293399) is a Passenger Ship that was built in 2006 and is sailing under the flag of Bermuda. Its carrying capacity is 113561 Gross Tonnage and her current draught is reported to be 8.8 meters. Her length overall (LOA) is 288.63 meters and her width is 36.05 meters. The ship is a Crown-class cruise ship owned and operated by Princess Cruises.
