Honorable Minister of Ports, Shipping and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka said the Galle harbour, one of Sri Lanka’s oldest harbours, would be transformed into a tourist port under a comprehensive development plan. Hon. Minister made these remarks following an observation tour to the Galle harbour yesterday.
Port of Colombo has embarked on a major infrastructure drive as the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is set to receive fourteen new Terminal Tractors that will substantially increase the efficiency of the country’s busiest port.
peaking to the media at the Colombo Port today after a brief observation tour last morning (7), the Hon. Minister said he also expected a report from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on the matter.
The Minister said that his prime duty was to ensure a transparent process be followed in the SLPA. He also advised officials to refrain from engaging in transactions through illegal or fraudulent means.
The two new pilot boats will be faster than other boats in the fleet and will be better equipped to handle modern ships that frequently visit the country’s busiest port
