To enhance operational efficiency, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority has started installing ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes on the fifth phase of the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT). These cranes were temporarily installed and used for operations at the East Container Terminal from 2020 until the completion of Phase V works at the JCT.
Commenting on the project, J. A. Chandraratne, Additional Managing Director (Technical) of the Sri Lank Ports Authority, highlighted the positive impact on the Jaya Container Terminal’s operational berthing and container handling capabilities. He emphasized that the integration of these advanced cranes into the terminal’s infrastructure will contribute to a significant boost in productivity, further solidifying its position as a key maritime hub in the region.
