“Ocean Odyssey” super luxury passenger ship arrives in Colombo port

Signaling the revival of the cruise shipping industry, the super luxury passenger ship “Ocean Odyssey” carrying 108 of America’s richest tourists arrived at Colombo port yesterday afternoon. This ship making its maiden voyage arrived at Colombo port from Cochin port in India and is scheduled to sail to Trincomalee port on December 19 sans any passengers and they will be travelling overland.

This is also the first passenger ship to dock at Trincomalee after the C-19 Pandemic.

The shipping agent company “Dave Marine” states that the tourists who came on this ship will disembark at Colombo port and travel around Colombo, Kurunegala Habarana, Sigiriya and Trincomalee by luxury buses for about two and a half days and board the ship from Trincomalee port on December 21. This cruise with high spenders will also give a much boost to Tourism revenue for the country. Then “Ocean Odyssey” after picking up passengers from Trincomalee Port on December 21 at 7 PM. is scheduled to sail to Thailand. This ship belonging to an American company is 105 meters long and 18.5 meters wide.

Marking the arrival of the ship for the first time at the port of Colombo, the ceremonial exchange of light took place between the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva and the captain of the ship.

A group of officials from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Services, Port Authority and Shipping Agent Company also participated in this event.
