Newly Appointed Japanese Ambassador Visits Port of Colombo

On this morning, 10th January 2025, His Excellency Akio Isomata, the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, made a notable visit to the Port of Colombo, accompanied by two distinguished officials from the Japanese Embassy in Colombo. The delegation’s visit marked an important moment in nurturing the bilateral relations between Japan and Sri Lanka, with the Ambassador expressing a keen interest in the terminal operations and ongoing development projects at the Port of Colombo.

Ambassador Isomata, alongside First Secretary and Head of Economic and Development Cooperation, Mr. Ohashi Kenji, and First Secretary for the Economic and Development Cooperation Section, Mr. Yamamoto Yasuhito, were given an extensive tour of the facilities. The visit was particularly focused on understanding the current status of container operations, as well as the ongoing infrastructural advancements that are crucial to the Port of Colombo’s strategic importance in international trade.

During the visit, the delegation was welcomed by senior officials of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, including Harbour Master Captain Nirmal Silva, and Mr. U Kumara, Director of Marketing and Business Development. Both representatives offered a comprehensive briefing on the present state of operations, detailing not only the port’s contributions to global trade but also its ambitious development plans aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and capacity.
